Description

Many elements of the EIP depend upon the actions of local residents and visitors. EIP Environmental Stewardship programs such as “Take Care” encourage community members and visitors to responsibly engage with and protect the Lake Tahoe Basin. This action priority includes the education of visitors, homeowners, and businesses on actions they can take to protect the Lake and help meet other goals of the EIP.

Projects include:

  • Engaging the public in the EIP through educational classes, field trips, volunteer days, visitor centers, and citizen science programs.
  • Educating homeowners and businesses on water quality best management practices and defensible space to protect natural resources from erosion and catastrophic wildfire.
  • Informing boaters and other lake recreators about how to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species.
  • Conducting trash clean ups and educating visitors and residents on the impacts of litter.
  • Informing visitors and residents how to recreate responsibly to avoid degradation of Tahoe’s natural resources and landscape.
