Trail counter data collected by the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) reports that recreation on the Tahoe Rim Trail increased from an estimated 400,000 annual users in 2016 to 700,000 in 2022. Despite this viral growth in recreation, resources to maintain sustainable trails in the Tahoe Basin remain limited. The TRTA will improve the Tahoe Rim Trail System along the existing trail corridor by installing structures such as rock walls and drainages that ensure the environmental sustainability of Tahoe’s booming recreation economy, keeping trails open to all while preserving the natural environment that people come to the Basin to enjoy.
