Forest Restoration Program Restore and Protect Native Fish and Wildlife
Infrastructure improvements are needed at both the USFWS's Lahontan National Fish Hatchery and CDFW's American River Fish Hatchery. Increasing chilled water supply and adding capacity to accommodate a larger Pilot Peak Lahontan cutthroat trout (LCT) broodstock would help expand production for stocking the Tahoe Basin. These improvements would assist reintroduction of an iconic native trout to the basin, expand recreational angling opportunities, and would support the LCT conservation goal of achieving self-sustaining, interconnected populations within historic habitat.
