Forest Restoration Program Restore Native Vegetation and Forest Communities
The project included hand thinning of white fir trees up to 14” in diameter to create openings in the understory to favor regeneration of sugar pine. Cut material was burned on site. To evaluate the state of wildlife populations in treated areas, seasonal survey and monitoring work was completed. These surveys were used to inform future forest restoration efforts, as well as to evaluate the effects of past efforts on songbird, raptor, and mammal populations. Total of 1500 sugar pine seedlings planted on 25 acres.
