Aquatic Invasive Species Program Prevent, Control, or Eradicate Aquatic Invasive Species
This project tested UV-C light technology in two lake environments, an enclosed waterbody (marina) and an open water body (beach littoral) system, for the treatment of aquatic invasive plant infestations. The technology has previously shown success in laboratory testing where results indicated complete mortality of plants and plant fragments treated with UVC light. In this study, a decrease in plant percent cover, mean plant height, and thus plant density, was observed. The results of this study demonstrated the efficacy of this method as a useful tool for controlling aquatic invasive plants and provided information to support future environmental document analysis and permitting needs.
