In 2021, Clean Up The Lake (CUTL) completed a nearshore (0 – 25 feet) lakebed litter cleanup along all 28 miles of Nevada’s Lake Tahoe shoreline. This effort removed 16,615 pieces of litter totaling 11,821 pounds.
In 2022 our team revisited 15 of these litter hotspot areas in Nevada, collecting 1,616.7 lbs of litter including 2,527 individual items. The findings suggest that the initial 72 mile cleaning was highly effective at removing the majority of lakebed litter. Litter collected for the first time from sites at depth 35ft and 70ft appeared in the same proportions as litter collected from the nearshore. This suggest that litter is likely being transported from nearshore to depth.
