Transportation Program Build and Enhance Trail Networks
In 2022, the TRTA installed over 25 trail counters. These counters were placed on all nine Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) segments and connector trails to better understand trail usage. All counters have been collected and data is currently being analyzed and compiled for reporting purposes. To supplement trail counter data, volunteers were also stationed at four different major trailheads of the TRT to collect data on the number of trail users that passed by on busy weekends and to determine day hiking or backcountry camping destinations. Additionally, a backcountry campsite inventory was performed at Star Lake and Showers Lake to better understand illegal camping impacts,
