After the Angora Fire, the Lukins Brothers Water Company developed the 2009 Infrastructure Replacement Plan, an 11-phase plan to bring the system up to current standards. Lukins has successfully completed almost 2 phases, funded exclusively by customer contribution, increasing system-wide fire protection by 40%. A new well is the next key step to increase Lukins overall source capacity, which will also will bring a regional benefit through Tahoe Keys Water and STPUD future intertie projects. This project will allow all future upgrades guaranteed water capacity and will decrease the threat of destruction from catastrophic wildfire in a key area of South Lake Tahoe and adjacent USFS lands.
