Community Wildfire Protection Program Implement Defensible Space on Public and Private Parcels and Utility Corridors
This 42 acre project will create a 100 foot defensible space zone around the new State Park trailhead facility and other existing structures located in the Spooner Lake Management unit of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. A vegetation management plan was written for the area as part of the requirement to meet IWUIC. There is also a Defensible Space Plan and four fuel management zones. All roads are managed as fire lanes to help ensure public safety and allow firefighters safe ingress/egress in case of emergency. Thinning prescriptions will vary by fuel management zone to meet a range of management objectives. Increased visitation over the next decade will require more emphasis on public safety.
