Reduce Hazardous Fuels
The primary objectives of this project are to reduce hazardous fuels and create defensible space within 150 feet of park infrastructure at Sand Harbor. The brush in the park is largely mature bitterbrush with minor amounts of huckleberry oak, tobacco brush, green leaf manzanita with several species of willow growing in wetter areas. Mature brush will be cut using chainsaws to reduce continuous fuelbeds. Large willow clumps will be cut in selected locations adjacent to picnic sites. Hazard trees will be removed and some thinning of live trees will be done. Material will be chipped and hauled off site. Dwarf mistletoe in Jeffrey pine will be removed, when possible.
