Community Wildfire Protection Program Reduce Hazardous Fuels
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California and USFS/LTBMU are jointly implementing the Máyala Wáta Restoration Treatment. A component of this treatment is to mechanically thin encroaching conifers, and contractors will remove the high value logs from the site. However, the small diameter woody biomass targeted for removal is of low economic value. This agreement will help fund transportation and utilization of forest biomass generated from the Máyala Wáta treatment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that may otherwise be emitted from open burning the material onsite. The Tribe will arrange for the transportation of an estimated 7,000 tons of forest biomass to facilities around the basin.
