California Department of Parks and Recreation is in the initial stage of designing a wetland enhancement project in the old quarry pit and pile near Dry Meadow in Washoe Meadows State Park. The site currently holds water until early summer and has established wetland vegetation - design goals would include expanding wetland habitat by lowering surface elevation, removing discarded quarry debris, maximizing wildlife habitat components, and extending surface water longer into the summer months.
