Critical Definitions

Shoreline – The highest line normally covered by waters of a lake or body of water. For Lake Tahoe, the shoreline elevation is 6229.1 feet.

Lakefront Access – An area along the shoreline that allows for public use of Lake Tahoe and its beaches. Does not include shoreline areas along other lakes in the Tahoe Basin.

Accounting Period and Scale

Information for this PM should be compiled during the year and entered into the EIP Database by the implementing entity’s reporting manager by December 31st of that year. EIP managers will start compiling reported data in October and will continue through December each year. Any information reported after December 31st will not be included in that year’s reporting totals.

This PM potentially overlaps with reporting for the Facilities Created or Improved PM, which measures the number of educational, recreational, lakefront or transit facilities improved or created in the Tahoe Basin each year. Public shoreline acquisitions reported under this PM will likely also create units of performance as a new facilities providing lakefront access. Project implementers should report both when they are applicable. See the Facilities Created or Improved PM Information Sheet for more information.

Background

Currently, the State of Nevada does not have a specific lake access program like the State of California. However access is often improved through the implementation of different recreation projects.
