Variable Speed Signs for Weather Conditions

This project develops and deploys a system that utilizes RWIS information to regulate variable speed signs. Posted speeds shall reflect both roadway and climate conditions, requiring travelers to reduce speed in an effort to improve safety. Implementation will reduce collisions and escape ramp usage. Through implementation, this project reduces congestion and traveler delays, increases the efficiency of the transportation system, and minimizes impacts of transportation on the environment.
