Proposed research should lead to increased understanding and quantification of how forest management practices (e.g., mechanical treatment, hand treatment, burning, or a combination of these activities) influence nutrient and sediment loading to Lake Tahoe and its tributaries. Research should address the question, “How do alternative forest management practices compare with regard to their short/long-term and cumulative effects on pollutant loading to tributaries and groundwater, and ultimately lake water quality?” Research proposals should address one or more of the following approaches, although proposals that integrate across these approaches are encouraged: (1) analyze, review and synthe
